Volume #10: Reflections on Navigating Life with the Invisible Load of Motherhood

Have you ever paused to consider the incredible, unseen efforts that keep our world spinning around? The moment that I realized the true scope of this effort arrived when I became a parent.

Twelve years ago, at the onset of my first pregnancy, I found myself unexpectedly navigating a maze of new responsibilities that comes with parenthood; a journey that many of us embark on (perhaps fortunately!) without realizing how much we will truly do for our children - no questions asked.

In this candid blog post, I reflect on the unrecognized, unpaid, and often overwhelming work of parenting that particularly falls upon women. This work is essential, and yet rarely acknowledged.

From the whirlwind of early motherhood to the daily grind of managing a household, I was shocked by the deep-seated societal norms dictating that, of course, I was supposed to be the one to shoulder these burdens.

The thing is: I didn’t really believe this narrative. Yet I still found myself “playing the role,” as so many women do. Why? And how do we let go?

The invisible load of motherhood isn't just my story. It's the story of countless others, struggling silently under the weight of expectations and unspoken responsibilities.

Join me on this personal exploration of invisible labor, its implications, and the profound changes that are in order to help us all share the load with our loved ones and recognize this vital work.
